BECKLEY - Classic cars and street rods will be a common sight on the streets of Beckley the weekend of July 18.

The fifth annual Friends of Coal Auto Fair is scheduled for July 18-20 at the YMCA Youth Sports Complex, according to the event's Web site. The event will feature hot rods, customized autos, classic rides, muscle cars, motorcycles and trucks.

This year's event also will feature a concert with Randy Travis and Taylor Made July 19. Former Marshall University coach Bob Pruett and former West Virginia University coach Don Nehlen are scheduled to make guest appearances. Nehlen, however, recently had open-heart surgery.

David Dudley was first on a crowded hole, and he went light on it, but still caught 15-12.

Day 2 at an FLW Tour event's like a game of chicken – everyone who caught 'em on day 1 wants to catch as little as possible, and the closer you can get to that imaginary stop-line – the 10th-place spot – the better your chances of winning.

That's because the Tour cuts its field to 10 anglers for the final 2 days, and zeroes all weights. So any extra weight caught on day 2 is pretty much a waste.

Co-angler Kansan Kevin Savely of Liberal wins Day 3 Big Bass honors and 12 place
Fellow Kansas co-anglers Preston Frazell and Michael Neal place 7th and 13th

June 14, 2008 - GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. Bassmaster Elite Series anglers are learning that it's not a wise idea to fire up Kevin VanDam. After narrowly missing out on his 14th BASS victory by 8 ounces on Alabama's Wheeler Lake last week and absorbing considerable trash talk from eventual winner Jeremy Starks of Charleston, W. Va., the three-time Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year has dominated the Bassmaster Elite Series' Bluegrass Brawl presented by DieHard® Platinum Marine Batteries on Kentucky Lake, taking a three-day total of 68 pounds, 4 ounces, and a near 7-pound advantage into the final day of competition.

GILBERTSVILLE, Ky. – Continuing his domination of fisheries in the Tennessee River Chain, three-time Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Kevin VanDam of Kalamazoo, Mich., extended his lead to nearly 3 pounds Friday with a two-day total of 46 pounds, 6 ounces, at the Bluegrass Brawl presented by DieHard® Platinum Marine Batteries. His nearest competitor, four-time Bassmaster Classic champion Rick Clunn, weighed 24 pounds, 0 ounces, to build his two-day total to 43 pounds, 12 ounces.

Admittedly disappointed last week after missing out on an Elite Series victory by just 8 ounces to West Virginia’s Jeremy Starks on Alabama’s Wheeler Lake, another fishery in the Tennessee River chain, VanDam is back for redemption this week.

GILBERTSVILLE, Kentucky - After barely missing out on his 13th BASS win at Alabama's Wheeler Lake last weekend, three-time Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Kevin VanDam is back in the saddle again, leading the Bluegrass Brawl presented by DieHard Platinum Marine Batteries® with a Thursday catch of 24 pounds, 13 ounces.

VanDam's nearest competitor was Mike McClelland of Bella Vista, Ark., who weighed 23 pounds, 6 ounces. Perhaps the best angler in the history of bass fishing, VanDam continued his assault on the Tennessee River chain. He finished second at Wheeler last week, finishing behind first-time BASS winner Jeremy Starks of Charleston, W.Va., by just 8 ounces, and again used a similar pattern to propel himself into the early lead of the four-day tournament.
