Looking to avenge two second-place finishes in Bassmaster Elite Series competition, Terry Scroggins of Palatka, Fla., extended his lead Friday to almost 4 pounds with a two-day total of 40 pounds, 10 ounces, at the Southern Challenge presented by Advance Auto Parts on Alabama’s Wheeler Lake. The versatile pro has scored five BASS wins but has yet to break through in an Elite Series event, the most prestigious level of tournament fishing. |

KVD smoked an astonishing 22-12 today at the Wheeler Bassmaster Elite Series in Alabama. The 18-year veteran is throwing a ton of different baits and catching lots of fish. About his current duel with 2nd place Jeremy Starks: “it’s very motivating.” “Jeremy has got a spot where he can just pull in there and catch them,” said VanDam, three-time BASS Angler of the Year and two-time Bassmaster Classic champion. “But I’ve really got to work hard for mine.” |

Last year, Hal Abshire of Cameron, Greg Lahr of Fayetteville and Bob Cunningham of Spout Springs -- all Desert Storm veterans and avid bass anglers -- put together a bass tournament to honor their comrades in arms. The event at Shearon Harris Lake drew 57 boaters and military anglers and was considered a huge success by those involved. This year? "Everything tripled in size," Abshire said. |
