Jeremy has always had fishing in his blood — he started bass fishing with his father and brothers in West Virginia back when he was five years old. From that early start, he fell in love with the sport and stayed with it because of the thrill of the competition. “My favorite aspect of being a pro angler is the sheer competitive nature of it — I think that’s what we’re all in it for, as I don’t know any pro angler who isn’t extremely competitive!” So far this dedicated angler has netted a top ten finish during his first year of competition, is currently ranked 114th in the world, and holds a 68th Bassmaster standing going into the 2008 season.

DECATUR, Alabama - With the odds stacked against him, Jeremy Starks of Charleston, West Virginia, outlasted perennial favorite and three-time Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year Kevin VanDam to take his first BASS victory Sunday with a four-day total of 78 pounds, 10 ounces, at the Southern Challenge presented by Advance Auto Parts.
Starks played the role of David to VanDam's Goliath at the seventh Elite tournament of the season. VanDam's considerable credentials include two Bassmaster Classic titles, 13 BASS wins and the title of all-time BASS career earnings leader. With the victory, Starks earned $100,000 and moved to 70th place in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings. |

 | Photo: ESPN Outdoors Kyle Harrigan and Jordan McMorris bested the competition at New York's Lake Oneida. | New Jersey's Kyle Harrigan, 18, and New Mexico's Jordan McMorris, 15, won their respective age divisions Saturday at the Junior Bassmaster World Championship on New York's Onondaga Lake. The event was rescheduled from a previously announced date that would have coincided with the Bassmaster Classic. It was instead held in conjunction with the final Bassmaster Elite Series event of the season, which was staged on New York's Oneida Lake, and the pair of teenagers took home $5,000 each in scholarships and a Triton boat package. Anglers competed in two age divisions, 11-14 and 15-18, fishing from the same boat operated by a Bassmaster Elite Series pro. The Junior World competitors were randomly paired with pros at a celebration Friday night and used Saturday as a practice day on Onondaga Lake. All earned the right to compete in the championship by fishing events on local and regional levels.

Jeremy Starks posted his first BASS win at the recent Bassmaster Elite Series Event at Alabama's Wheeler Lake, plucking the victory from all-time BASS career earnings leader Kevin Van Dam. Winning by just eight ounces, Starks credited his victory to his decision to protect his secret spot on the Decatur Flats, saving its bounty for the final day. He also credited the protection and glare-cutting performance of his Wiley X® Climate Control Series™ sunglasses.
With one Top 10 finish during his first year of competition, Starks entered the 2008 season ranked 114th in the world. In addition to banking $100,000, Starks' recent victory moved him into 70th place in the Toyota Tundra Bassmaster Angler of the Year standings. Starks (right) can be seen post-event with trophy held high, still sporting his Wiley X shades.
